The Phantom Edit.
Inspired by the Attack of the Clones (ack, what a bad title! I'm calling it Episode 2 from now on) review, I got my hands on the much hyped "Phantom Edit" of Star Wars: Episode One. It removes all that crap that Lucas thought he should leave instead of treating the audience with a tad more dignity. After viewing it, I'd say if this edit had been my first experience with the movie, I might have enjoyed the movie a heck of a lot more.
Gone are those pointless underwater scenes, most of Jar Jar's more painful scenes, and 50% of the crap that aggravated me with Anakin. The pacing still sucks badly, (I mean 3 pod race laps !? Most nonsuspense I've ever been forced to watch) but that would have required a rewrite, not an edit. Still, to be able to remove 20 minutes and make a BETTER movie out of it, I'd have to say Lucas needs to hire an editor to wrangle in some of that "vision" he put up on the screen.
Ugh. TWO Star Wars post in one night. Crap. I need to get away from this computer.
