Night in Progress...
Sitting at a PC-bong with Marc, waiting for my turn to install "Age of Empires". I decided since I had some spare time I would post about my night so far.
Everything started off normally enough. I was invited out to eat with Marc and Carey, as a students parents wanted to take us out to dinner. We drove over to the resturaunt, and had a nice meal, and gave praises and accolades to the students parents. It was So-Hyun , one of the "SuperKids" so they weren't hollow in nature by any meals. After the meal, Carey was feeling a little ill, so we dropped her off and looked for a Pc-Bong to go visit and "Age it up" as it is called.
We got on the elevator, and as the doors were about to close, a Korean gentleman, about 50 years of age, and a gentleman companion poked their hands through to get on. We opened the doors for them and one of them asked us where we were from. We responded, and he struck up a conversation about how he was a Korean High School Principal. As we were getting out of the elevator, he asked us to go to the Norebong with them and stay for an hour or so. After a second of indecision about the offer, I hopped in the elevator and said, "What the hell, this is why I love Korea."
Not knowing what kind of adventure awaited us, Marc and I tried to be as accomidating as possible and picked tunes we thought everyone knew. Appearantly, 50 year old men here know the collective works of Tom Jones and Elvis Presley, but not the Beatles for some reason. We sang a few tunes before noticing one of the men had slipped out to go home. The next thing I know, I was belting out some chorus, and the room was suddenly occupied by me, Marc, the Principal, and two beautiful Korean women. Startled, I looked at Marc to get some footing, as if I expected him to know what was going on. He sort of gave me a "Uh, just go with it, we'll figure it out after the song is over" kind of look, and continued singing. Well, he tried to, but I started laughing at the whole situation and it went downhill from there for our score.
Basically, the women were PRO-Norebong singers, and they are hired to dance with horney old men and keep them company singing. They were exceptional singers, without a doubt, and very pleasing on the eyes too. I don't exactly know how "far" that whole arrangement was going to go, but the old man was slow dancing with them when I was crooning off-key to "Yesterday".He took my reservations about dancing with these girls as if I wanted different, more attractive ones for some reason, and I assured him that wasn't why.
I told them I couldn't dance, but Koreans are used to the false modesty routine. Since escape was nigh impossible, by the end of the hour he had me slowdancing with one of the girls as he did an operatic interpretation of some Tom Jones classic. He sounded like a full sized Muppet come to life passionately singing "Delilah". That image was enough to keep me giggling every time he picked up the mic.
It was surreal. The girls seemed to be used to his attention, so I passed it off as they were comfortable with what they were doing. After the hour was up, we all grabbed our things and were out the door, simple as that. We said our goodbyes, and now I sit in the Pc-bong, typing out this post. Interesting night to say the least.
