Uh oh.
I took a trip downtown today to check out the newest games they had for my Game Boy Advance and whatnot. While I was standing around for service, I got the nerve up to ask about getting a replacement power cord for my Playstation 2. I had enough Korean to explain that it was an American version, and when the boss of the shop came over, he explained that since the voltage is different (American 110v don't play nice with Korean 220v sockets) that, in his words "Playstation go boom" if I was going to plug it in directly with the cord they were about to sell me. He told be to buy a "downstream converter" which he gratiously had to sell me as well to convert the voltage. Knowing vaguely that sounded like the best idea I've heard all day, and that since he had a japanese Playstation 2 running in his booth so he probably know what he was talking about, I ended up purchasing both the cord, the converter and a copy of "Super Mario Land 2" for my Game Boy Advance.
I was practically giddy with excitement on the walk to Popeye's chicken, where I had a quick meal and then hopped in a cab. I went up to my room and quickly assembled the required series of converters and extensions to reach my Playstation and plugged it all in. I crossed my fingers because I figured it would either work and I would be able to play games again, or I would blow up my Playstation 2 once and for all time (if that had not happened already when I experimented before).
Much to my delight, the Playstation 2 works! So, why the "Uh oh" in the title? Well, considering my increase in salary and income recently, I have more money to spend now then ever before on games. Pair that with the fact that most of the English speaking people here are leaving, and I have vast acres of time to play my games. Now I just have to get my hands on some Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty and some Grand Theft Auto 3 and I will be one happy little gamer.
Oh yeah, before I forget, Japanese version of Super Mario 2's voice acting sounds like the Wicked Witch of the West from the "Wizard of Oz" getting an enema while screaming her lines. (Shudder) It's that bad. I'll be playing with the sound off I think.
Oh yeah, and I just found out I get to be Santa Claus this year for the school kids. There's sure to be more about this in the future.
