Christmas Eve.
After returning from writing that MASSIVE post yesterday, I was unable to sleep. All that napping messed with my normal sleeping patterns, so I was tossing and turning when I happened to look at the clock. I remembered that after midnight it was technically Christmas Eve. Since there is a semi-tradition set by my brother and I that we get to open on present on the 24th, I went to grab the gifts my parents sent me in the package I recieved a few months ago. Since one of them was almost ripped open during shipping, I decided to open it for my early present.
Much to my delight, my parents managed to find me a gift that is significantly geeky enough for my tastes, useful, and something I didn't have or plan to purchase any time soon but still would love to own, a handheld GPS device. My father has the exact same unit, and he and I played around with it on our annual drive out to the relatives last year for a Christmas party.
I can't believe how useful this is going to prove to be if I learn how to use it correctly and keep it with me when I need to go somewhere. No matter how lost I will get, I will still know which general direction to head in at all times. Since 99% of Daejon's roads have no street names, I'll be able to go places downtown and otherwise that I would normally be weary of going without someone else to guide me back to where I was framiliar (in case I can't grab a taxi or something.)
I'm nearly drooling in anticipation to try this gadget out, but it's the coldest here it's been yet so far, and my fingers are chilly just typing this post in the school. I don't have to teach today, so I will hopefully be able to explore and mark down waypoints to help me around the city if it warms up a little bit or I decided to heap on more coats and clothing.
