Damn you, Encino MAANNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since I was told approximately yesterday that I had to work today giving level tests to children, I was rather bitter. I mean, geez, give me some time in case I had some obligations or something ($$). Anyway, I played ignorant when I returned and proxied a fair share of tests. I better be getting some overtime is all I'll say, as spending a weekend at work anyplace than my room is not fun.

I helped the teachers clean up, and since I had promised to show Samantha downtown, mentioned it casually as we were putting away chairs and tables. Giraffe teacher (E) and Lion teacher (Hyun Ju) invited themselves along, not that I minded much as I really wasn't the guy to show people what to do downtown as I don't really know myself.

Hyun Ju made us take the bus, which was a first for me. The only thing is we couldn't catch the RIGHT bus so we ended up getting let off by begging the driver to stop somewhere he shouldn't. Lucky for me, as the place where we did get off the bus was next to the coolest video game place I've found yet. The owner took me across to his place where he told me if I wanted to mod my playstation 2 to play copies it would take him 2-3 days, and he let me see his collection of titles. Not the most compelling of games, but worth considering if my supply of good games runs low sometime in the future. I also got him to order my Ps2 multiregion accessory, so I can rent movies here when I want too. w00t! Thanks to my GPS, I'll actually be able to find this guy again...hmm, except his store was underground (physically underground in a mall)...well, it'll take some luck but I am up to the challenge for some gameage.

We ate at a place that I have been told has a very good breakfast, only they were serving dinner/lunch menu while we were there,so I will have to return. It has a bakery as well, but I have yet to spot a bagel in this country. I made my complaints known to my companions. They were all equally baffled. ::Grumbles and marks down "Complete Lack of Bagels" in the "Why I dislike Korea sometimes" column of the big mental score sheet.::

With some help and luck I finally purchased Daft Punk's "Discovery" which should help me to get their infernal (in a good way) music out of my head. I even bought a Korean grammar book I am 99% sure I will never be good enough to use, but hey, I'm trying.

Next we ended up checking out one of the things I've wanted to see but was intimidated by: The DVD room. Basically, since you don't ever take dates home, Korean teenagers/non-married-types need a place to go to watch movies that were already released. The place we went to was sweet, even if the selection was mainly American movies I didn't really want to see, and some good old fashioned Asian porn (of course!). There were a few American movies I will go back to see if the mood striked me though...no really, I'll only go back for the American movies. Honest.

Since E picked the movie, we ended up seeing "The Mummy Returns". This is one of those movies I would never ever bother watching in the theater, because I know in a few months I would be tearing it up in in a chat room Mst3k style with my friends.

Ok, onto the movie itself...let me just start out saying I hate Brendan Fraser, I hate CGI-spectical based action movies, and movies that blatantly rip off other movies poorly. There was very little hope for this movie from the start. I could actually hear the people behind the marketing of this movie in my head as I watched it:

Marketing Devil 1: "Ok, so we start out with a scene from one of the "Indiana Jones" movies."
Marketing Devil 2: "Which one? I wanted to rip of that whole "Nazi's meeting a grisly fate by an ancient force" like they did in "Raiders of the Lost Arc".
Marketing Devil 1: "No, no, that's ok, because I wanted to rip off the bug scene from "Temple of Doom"."
Marketing Devil 2:"Oh yeah, and we'll throw in Titanic too, and how about a wrestler too? Add some of that left over CGI from the last movie too, people dug that. This is going to be huge."
Marketing Devil 1: "Hell, I smell a sequel in the works already."

As if you didn't know, a horrible film to say the least. At least the room was posh, with 5.1 dolby and speakers in the couch that makes you bounce when the bass hits. At least that was enough to keep me awake through such a crappy film. At least I have another rainy day activity to keep me busy now.
