Cowon O2: Just a little bit longer to wait
Tech October 8th. 2008, 10:00pmSeeing as the Cowon D2 In Depth Review article is one of my consistently most read things on the entire website, I thought I’d follow up on my current and future plans for mp3 players. Right now I’m still using my Cowon D2 as my primary listening device. I use Avidemux to convert video files to the proper specifications, and then move the file over to my player. It works perfectly in Linux or Windows, when I have a podcast that releases while I’m at work.
Coming soon is my new replacement player, the Cowon O2. This player will be my present to myself for working at a kindergarten earlier last month. I’ve put away money to purchase this sweet looking player. Just check out these specifications:
- 4.3″ LCD display
- DMB-T tuner support
- Electronic dictionary
- Up to 32GB flash memory
- SD/SDHC memory card slot
- 18 hours playback time for audio
- 8 hours playback time for video
- Supports wide range of video formats (Anything and everything will play on this machine)
- Built-in speakers
- TV Out
Basically, this is the Cowon D2 taken to the next level. Bigger screen, speakers, better resolution, more memory. Everything I want in a portable video player. Best yet, it’s flash, so I don’t have to worry about moving parts, and I can even upgrade the memory via the Flash Drive! This thing is so purchased, I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
I’ll be able to hand-me-down my old mp3 player, which is totally awesome, to my wife, so I never have to touch her horrific iRiver h10 to try to put music on it ever again. Now she’ll be able to listen to podcasts, watch movies, or use the DMB.

Does Avidemux convert real media files? I’m having trouble getting such files to play on my D2

Real media? Why do you hate yourself enough to use THAT format? I’m not sure what the container file format for that is. It might be proprietary. I wouldn’t know, but my first guess would be no. Avidemux is excellent and FREE, so it wouldn’t hurt to try it though.

I don’t particularly want to use it….i’m catching up on an old series of a programme i like and the only version i could track down is in real media…anyhow i found something else to convert it into .avi and then reconvert into D2 format
