Halloween

The reason I had decided to wear a Korean security guard costume was that it was only clothes, no mask. The problem with students that don’t know that Halloween doesn’t have to be monsters all the time is that when you wear something low key and unassuming they’d see around town, but have it being worn ironically is this: You have to explain your costume to everyone. This is way more annoying that just putting on some crazy clown hair and just having everyone laugh when you enter the room.

Instead of my original idea, I had to teach classes while wearing this ridiculous costume. I don’t mind, but trying to do computer work, in mask, wig, and regalia while fending off children that want candy, all while trying to keep the volume low enough that the Korean teachers could continue to call people on the phone was exhausting. I gave out four full buckets of candy today. The students loved everything except chocolate mints. Some loved them, some really strongly hate them. That was the only candy turned down today.

For those keeping track, I used that Alien mask before, added a clown wig, and drew on some Rock eyebrows for fun. The younger students all dressed up too, but around fifth grade the students weren’t as willing to do anything except draw scary pictures on the white board or talk about Halloween traditions in class. All in all it was fun, but tiring.
