Spacemen!
Korean life, Parenting May 18th. 2009, 10:00pmOne of the hard things about shopping for, or talking about baby stuff is that my vocabulary in both English and Korean is very limited. I don’t know what any of the stuff is, or what it is called. I wasn’t around babies at any point of time besides when they’d be brought to a kindergarten and dumped off on someone else. As we’ve gone shopping and started purchasing different items, my vocabulary has hardly improved, but I did learn a pretty cool thing.
What we’d call “Footie Pajamas”, or one piece clothing for a baby, my wife calls “우주복” (Ooju bok) . This means “space” 우주 (Ooju) “suit” 복 (Bok)”. That simple garment has such a cooler name in Korean! Why would anyone ever want to put on pajamas with feet when you can be putting on a “space suit” instead! If they were called that in English, I probably would be wearing them to this day.

Awesome. For the baby’s bottle top, it always feel weird to me that they are just called plain “nipples” I hope theres a better Korean word for it. Same thing with the “pacifier” I always knew them in Spanish but it just awkard in Fnglish.
