I talked to my father today before they left for their flight. They’re flying to visit Glow, so they’ll be in town tomorrow night or early tomorrow morning at around 1-3AM if they can find my house. We had promised to take them from our house to a nice hotel where they could sleep and rest after their long flight. What we didn’t know was that the entire city has been booked! The 90th National Sports Festival is in Daejeon this year.

I didn’t know about this until yesterday when someone at work was talking about different sporting events that were happening all around the city. Now we find out that the hotels have been booked for MONTHS in advance, and we had no idea! We’ve got people coming on two different days that needed hotel rooms. We won’t be able to spend time in Daejeon because there aren’t going to be any place for my extended family to sleep. We don’t have that many beds in the house. We’ve called in favors with booking agents and they said there wasn’t a room left in the city. Looks like we’ll need to get out of the house and travel outside Daejeon more than we anticipated. At least while they are here there will be something cool to see. I’ll get my dad to go to some of the events if he is up for it.

This will all be foreign to my parents, who obsessively book everything in months in advance. We didn’t even know the itinerary until we started talking about it with them a few days ago. We didn’t know the dates of trips and times, and I was too busy with work and the baby to keep on top of everything. This is probably the most stressed out I’ve been in quite some time. The first few nights will be fine, as I can give them our room to make up for our mistake if a room doesn’t come along, but when my Grandmother arrives we’re going to do some radical improvising. Overnight trips anyone? Luckily I can take off work for two days and spend time with them.

Actual vacation time?! It seems so foreign to me.
