I've had lots of Canadian and English coworkers that get attitudes with "American Spelling" if I don't recognize "The Queen's" spelling. I usually point out that language evolves, and that spelling changes occur over time for a multitude of reasons. Getting it "in the ballpark" is more of the point when teaching kids anyway.
