I did, in fact, get Beryl up and running. Simple in Feisty as it could be. It's got a LOT of eye candy. Too much, in fact, for me. I got the windows effects back down to a tolerable level.

Turns out I just hated the "Magic Lamp" minimize effect, so once I figure out how to change THAT, the rest was pretty good. The rotating cube doesn't work for me yet though, and all the videos I see are just people flipping through their desktops one after another. I feel left out with my zoom and wobbly windows. The other stuff is very snazzy looking. I want some more productivity upgrades to work their way in before I really start worrying about Beryl.

I recently discovered your blog - nice to see a fellow Linux user. I use Arch myself.

You should have a stab at getting xgl/compiz up and running for some pretty awesome eye-candy. I think it's fairly straight-forward on Ubuntu (as are most things).

Nice blog.
