The urban legend I heard was that the government was actually buying all of that milk, then dumping it somewhere where no person could consume it (or perhaps underfunded city schools?) out of fear of contamination I do know, however, that the water I drank as a child was polluted by that nuclear facility, and possibly irradiated as well. The option of a gold tooth was discussed, but since it was a side tooth that would show when I smiled, we went ceramic instead. The "tooth spinner" option wasn't something they had available in the consulation room.
