::A Geek in Korea::

I’m hanging out on a relative’s computer. My wife, enjoying her last day of a mini-vacation this week (I’m so jealous), came over to her Aunt’s house. She’s been teaching how to make some bead art, which happens to be her hobby. Since we treated their children to a movie (well, they bought the tickets, we donated our time) our Aunt invited us to join them to see D-War (Dragon War in the States). It’s a heavily promoted movie in Korea, despite being being made in the US. It’s using Korean made CGI, and it’s a big budget sort of movie. It looks like an overproduced B-movie to me, but I’ll give it a chance when I go to see it later tonight.

The younger cousin and I played some Super Mario brothers earlier via download play with the Nintendo DS. I stomped and fireballed him into oblivion. He told me it was the first time he had ever played Super Mario Brothers! He plays online games, soccer games, and first person shooters in his spare time. Oh, and Starcraft, of course.

At least he has a Nintendo DS, so there is some hope for him. Someone hasn’t set this boy straight when it comes to good classic games. It looks like I’m going to have to step up to the task and inject some cultured platforming games into his life. Hasn’t played Mario. It’s nearly impossible to imagine.

Apart from that, I’ve been trying to stay in the shade to avoid the hellishly hot weather we’ve been having recently. The humidity and sun have really started to make the afternoon commutes nasty. Yoshi’s been getting cooked when we go out for walks, and immediately drinks the majority of his water bottle when he gets home. Still, it’s not even CLOSE to being as hot as it was LAST summer. Not even close. Last year, I had to run home between classes every few hours to deposit ice for my dog to drink so he didn’t disappear into a puddle of hair from the sun. One of these days I’ll end up in a house with some air conditioning.
