I had been surfing around for cool information about the Nintendo Wii when I stumbled upon an article announcing a new channel that would be launched today. Called the “Check Mii Out” channel, it was a place where people can post their Mii creations online, let others vote for them and even download them to their own Wii. That lets people share their creations and get recognition as an artisan.

I’m a little ashamed to say that this idea really sounded cool to me. Collaborative Mii stuff seemed like such a neat idea, but I don’t have any ideas about who I should make into digital characters.

The layout is great for finding random Miis, or popular designs. It seems tons of people tried to make Michael Jackson, Jesus, and Hitler. Go figure.

Trying to find specific Mii or something a friend made is much more difficult. The characters don’t have full names either, only abbreviations. Part of the fun is looking at the characters is trying to guess who they are supposed to be. I probably spent over an hour today looking at the characters, guessing who people were, then downloading the ones that I liked most. That is so sad.

I went from having five Mii I made myself to having over fifty in the course of a day. There will be ongoing competitions about who can make a themed Mii. Right now, a Mii with a Mario face without a hat is the first subject. I don’t know if I’ll participate, but there are some really, REALLY creative people from the looks of the channels so far.

Here is some video of it in action.
