I liked the look of the creatues. Yes, some Lovecraft "homages" for sure. Yes, most of the characters were at one time or another total morons.

7,000 won down the drain. I just didn't care about any of these buffoons who all were lacking common sense. They live in a rural area and the only person with a gun was the new special education teacher. Even the MP was weapon less while the soldiers were gutless (not the ones I know).

I grew up and lived in a rural area for most of my life, and most people I know drive around with an extra container or two of gas in their vehicles. Many also know how to siphon gas from one vehicle to another.

What disappointed me the most was the lead actor's refusal to help a man in tremendous pain and suffering horrendous burns in ending his life. He forces this man to hold out until his bitter end, and then he doesn't do all he can for his own son and the others at the end.

Yeah, I know it is just a movie, but as audiences get more sophisticated, so should the movie makers. I also wanted to know more about the sci-fi aspect of the film and less about the bible thumping part. I'm not a fan of religion, but this was so anti-religion that I was squirming in my seat and actually feeling for the Christians in the audience. However, I was glad to see Stephen King using themes from H.P. Lovecraft (From Beyond) which are close to 100 years old. I see that the ending was straight out of the great Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone episode, “I Shot an Arrow Into the Air” from 1960—one of the best and worth watching again and again.
