Today I was busy running around town. I had to meet some people and do some work, so I took a short break after leaving the subway on the way to my appointment. My wife had made a sandwich for me, and she was waiting with Yoshi, who was lively and interested in my dinner. She said that he had taken a poo earlier, but that he had been walking fine.

Later, during my meeting, I got a message that Yoshi was sick. He had bloody diarrhea and was drooling more that usual. He still had a high energy level, so he wasn’t extremely ill, but it was worrisome. I got another message as I was heading home that we needed to take Yoshi to the vet.

I got home as fast as possible. Yoshi had just taken a bath and was clean, but he was clearly not holding down his meals. He had vomited once, and was leaking out the backside too. He was a mess. We put him in an over-sized rugged plastic Costco bag and headed out to catch a taxi. Luckily we got a cool taxi driver that didn’t mind dogs. I held onto Yoshi to keep him from making a mess in the taxi while we rode across the neighborhood to our good vet friend.

The vet had been working on a poodle pup with parasites late into the evening, so he was still in his office. He examined Yoshi. He wanted to know if Yoshi had been meeting other dogs, had eaten watermelon, or had gotten any other shots. He had gotten a Parvo virus and Rabies virus shot recently. We paid for a few shots, and then got him an IV drip.

The drip takes two hours to work, and we had arrived at the vet at 11:00. The vet said he was willing to stay in his office until 1:00 am. Since we live across town and have no car, the vet said he would even drive Yoshi back to our apartment when the IV drip was finished. WOW, now THAT is service.

Right now we’re cleaning up from all the mess Yoshi made in the apartment when he was leaking from both ends. We hope it’s just a simple problem, and not something life threatening. The microscopic tests seemed inconclusive, but some of the potential diseases are lethal. We’ve got an hour to wait until Yoshi comes back, so there is nothing left to do but hope he’s better.

**EDIT: The IV drip and the medicine we’ve been giving him seems to have improved the situation. Yoshi doesn’t get a walk, or food, just in case. However, this morning he was his bright and cheerful self, wondering why he wasn’t allowed to run around the house.
