Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People
My connection to the characters of Homestar Runner started sometime in 2002. Homestar Runner and the other assorted characters run around in an insane little world that exists as a flash animated cartoon. When I was working as a kindergarten teacher, I made room decorations for my classes featuring all the characters. The show is a sort of Internet cultural touchstone. Hip people know who Trogdor or Strong Bad are, even if they might not recognize some of the more obscure characters. They are pioneers in the content market of the Internet, and I think their characters are as iconic as anything made by Disney.
I stopped watching the show for a while, not for any particular reason, but because I stopped reading Fark.com which kept me updated on when new episodes were released. When I got my Wii, one of the few entertainment sites that works with the Wii browser was the Homestar Runner site. I caught up on about fifty episodes and was feeling the love for the show all over.
Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People is coming to WiiWare tomorrow in the United States for 1000 points. It’s a point and click game made in episodic fashion that explores the universe of Homestar Runner. There will be 5 awesome installments, and I’ll probably spend a fortune on the game picking all of them up if the first one is good.
I’m more than happy to give the creators of Homestar Runner some cash for their hard work entertaining me. I’ve been waiting since it was announced, and it’s been delayed since June repeatedly. There was a final announcement that it would be released this week, and I’m planning on purchasing it when it pops up on my machine. It’s been well reviewed too, so I’m optimistic about the quality.
Anyone that is a fan of indie Internet creations hitting the big time owe it to themselves to pick this up on the Wii to support the creation of new media.
